Example of Gibbs Reflective Cycle

Named for Professor Graham Gibbs of Oxford University. Gibbs reflective cycle is a staged analysis of an experience. There are six basic stages:

  1. Description
  2. Feelings
  3. Evaluation
  4. Analysis
  5. Conclusion
  6. Action plan

The cycle connects each stage of the analysis and response to the others in a continuum. This analytical method defines stages effectively, and allows some structure and systematic processes in analysis.

Examples of Gibbs Reflective Cycle:

You may for example start with an action plan intending to do something, and follow through points 1-5 as a natural result, arriving at a new action plan. Each part of the cycle is a logical development from any point in the cycle.
